Quietness

When I walk into my home, it has always amazed me how my mind is disciplined to be quiet. Then I breathe, and I start being thankful for everything, when I mean everything - that means even for the messes that there could be lying around.
That's when I give my eyes the time to blink and observe what many times in the midst of silence and quietness can be captured. Many times, so many things tend to drift by and are missed and not observed because there is so much noise around us daily, and we tend to miss out on something as beautiful as this picture.
This picture was taken in Arizona, and unless you really take the time to observe it, you will miss out on the vibrant reds, oranges, golds, purples, lavenders, turquoise veins, and deep greens that can be observed. We might only see the trees, but we don't stop to think about how these beautiful trees grow inside these rocks.
This is the same way that we do not ask ourselves why our thoughts are taking over us. Maybe it's because we don't know what the root of the thoughts that are rampant in our minds is, and we don't have the strategies on how to be in control and learn to enjoy quietness.
These trees, by utilizing small fissures and cracks for root anchorage, search for nutrients in trapped dust and organic matter, and exert immense pressure to break rocks apart. Did you know that roots create acids that dissolve rock, absorbing essential minerals while developing a jelly-like coating to protect themselves?
What amazes me is their resilience... They grow slowly and become stunned, adapting to nutrient-poor conditions over decades.
I have always wondered why, when I am having a day with many things to do (one of the things that I work on diligently is organizing time), I do place things in a timely order, but many times unexpected things happen, and this is when I breathe and find a tree or a place where there is lots of nature and connect.
I wanted to share with you that this is called "Biophilia" or "Green prescription" for mental health. A 2017 study found a positive connection between tree canopy cover around a home and amygdala integrity = which is the capability of the brain to handle stress.
It was amazing to understand that the word biophilia is derived from the Greek and it means love of life or love of nature. And on a psychological level, the effects are that the longer exposure you give yourself to nature reduces blood pressure, lowers anxiety, improves mood, and increases focus. I was pleased to learn this from psychologist Erich Fromm.
What was more amazing to me was learning about what are the top 5 personal values of biophilia, which are :
Altruism - I did my 1st disertation on altruism, and the topic was "Are children born altruistic?" for those that do not know, altruism is selflessness for the greater good of society.
Dependability - If you're dependable, you're a person that others can rely on...
Integrity
Generosity
Courage
Gratitude
Well-being
Education
So, when I walk into my home, I stop and listen to my body. I know that everything that I have planned might take a shift just like that tree that needs to crack through that tree and create that jelly before it rises, and I can envision that my branches with my projects, health, and so much more will grow with a beautiful twist and reslience and all of that takes time. I understand that there is nothing wrong with being alone, that people's opinions are just that, their opinions, that any financial situation will pass, and that the most important thing is to understand ( and always remind myself ) that;
In 2018, there was a study that taught me a lot and changed me. It's called the IKEA plant experiment or the "Bully a Plant" campaign by IKEA UAE and Memac Ogilvy - it showed that plants bullied with negative words wilted after 30 days, while those praised with compliments flourished. Although this was not a scientific experiment, it shows that we must be very careful not only in what we say but on what we think.
Learn to close your eyes, to breathe, to listen to your body. And don't forget quitness is a skill that comes with practice, and that practice comes with consistency and repetition, and once conquered, it is a masterpiece.
I had to learn to accept myself as I am, love me as I am, love every part of me inside and out, and learn that life is a wonderful thing and it has amaing wonders to explore and that hurt people hurt people so I decide to be empathetic and understanding while placing boundries with love and focusing on what I know is coming for me and working hard to get it.
To all, have an amazing night/morning or evening and remember the choice of the outcome of your day or night is only yours!!!!!
Thank you for taking the time to read and connect!
