The Weight of Dreams No One Sees By Mitzy Coreano

Tonight, my heart carries a weight that words can scarcely articulate.

I sit in the solemn embrace of solitude, surrounded by a silence so profound that even sorrow seems hesitant to disturb it.

The faint hum of a modest heater is my only companion, offering its fragile warmth to hands wearied by life's relentless demands.

Beyond this small circle of comfort, the house remains surrendered to the unforgiving cold.

Not because warmth is beyond my reach, but because necessity has taught me the painful arithmetic of survival.

The heating oil must last another two months.

And so, tonight, I ration warmth as I have rationed so many things in this life—quietly, deliberately, and without an audience.

Tears descend slowly, gathering upon the lenses of my glasses, blurring a world I have fought so desperately to see with clarity.

How extraordinary it is that people can witness the evidence of one's progress while remaining profoundly unaware of the sacrifices concealed beneath it.

They see the accomplishments.

They see the milestones.

They see the doors that have finally begun to open.

But they do not see the countless nights of uncertainty, the silent negotiations with despair, or the extraordinary effort required to construct a future without ever having been given the instruments, instructions, or guidance to build one.

I have been expected to create masterpieces with tools I was never taught to use, to navigate unfamiliar territories without a compass, and to arrive at destinations for which no one ever offered me a map.

I have knocked upon more doors than I can remember.

Some remained unanswered.

Others were closed before I could finish explaining the dreams I carried.

And still, I knocked.

Until, in an unexpected chapter of this journey, an unfamiliar avenue appeared before me: artificial intelligence.

What others may perceive merely as technology became, for me, an instrument of possibility—a means of learning, creating, and continuing when human guidance seemed painfully beyond my reach.

Yet even amid these seemingly endless obstacles, grace has found its way into my story through individuals whose kindness deserves to be immortalized in gratitude.

A nun, perhaps unaware of the magnitude of her gesture, introduced me to an extraordinary human being.

A person who, despite not witnessing the intimate struggles of my daily existence, has become an invaluable source of assistance in bringing numerous projects to life.

To EIMT, I extend my deepest gratitude for granting me the opportunity to pursue an aspiration when so many avenues in the United States appeared irrevocably closed.

To Richard, a fellow student encountered through the extraordinary connections of online education, thank you for directing me toward Blue Publishing, another doorway through which a long-cherished dream has begun its passage from imagination into reality.

These gestures may appear modest to those who offered them.

But to someone who has spent years searching for an opening, a single act of kindness can become the architecture of an entirely different future.

And yet, tonight, gratitude and grief occupy the same space within my heart.

I do not know what destiny has written beyond the pages I have already endured.

I do not know whether the road ahead will reward these sacrifices or demand still more of a spirit that has already given so much.

There are moments, like this very evening, when the enormity of my aspirations confronts the limitations of my knowledge, my resources, and my circumstances.

Moments when I feel painfully inadequate before the magnitude of everything I still long to accomplish.

Moments when determination remains alive, yet the soul grows weary from having to be courageous for so long.

For even the strongest hearts grow tired of surviving circumstances they never chose.

And perhaps that is the sorrow no one sees.

Not the absence of ambition.

Not the surrender of hope.

But the profound exhaustion of continually having to transform scarcity into opportunity, uncertainty into direction, and pain into something beautiful enough to offer the world.

Tonight, I have no triumphant declaration.

No magnificent announcement.

No certainty that tomorrow will be kinder.

I have only this small heater, these trembling hands, these tear-stained glasses, and a heart still trying to understand how much more it must endure before the weight becomes lighter.

But I also have my words.

And perhaps, for tonight, they are enough.

For the tears that have fallen, I offer gratitude—not because suffering is beautiful, but because they have allowed emotions long imprisoned within me to finally find their release.

For the words that have emerged from this silence, I am grateful, because they have given form to feelings I could no longer carry without expression.

And for the dream that continues to breathe within me, even when my confidence falters, I remain quietly thankful.

I do not know what tomorrow has reserved for me.

But tonight, in a house too cold to warm and a heart too burdened to rest, I have discovered something that hardship has never managed to take from me:

The ability to turn my tears into language, my silence into testimony, and my unfinished journey into art.

And so, I will allow myself to weep.

I will allow myself to be human.

For tonight, I do not need to conquer the world.

I only need to make it through the darkness without abandoning the dream that has carried me this far.

And perhaps, somewhere beyond this cold and solitary evening, a future I cannot yet imagine is quietly waiting for me to arrive.
